Love Huntsville is a grassroots organization working toward ending homelessness & intergenerational poverty

Our mission is to seek dignity, equality, & equity for Huntsville’s homeless population.

HOW DO WE MAKE IMPACT?

Love Huntsville’s goal is to accelerate access to housing justice, by creating powerful innovative policies & programs that are equitable, inclusive, resilient, and fit for the 21st century.

  • Love Huntsville believes that housing is a human right, and that everyone should be guaranteed an affordable, safe, quality, & sustainable place to call home. Also, we believe that homes should be accessible for people with physical or other disabilities, as well as to where people work, go to school, and where they have created community. Housing shouldn’t be deemed as a privilege for select groups of people.

In order to build a just housing system, we must began now. in order to obtain housing justice we must create policies that are fit for the 21st century. Love Huntsville believes that in order to end homelessness we must advocate for policies that have been deemed by research to be most effective such as; Housing First. Our mission here at Love Huntsville is to create innovative housing policy solutions in hopes to prevent, and end homelessness.

  • Since the city of Huntsville evicted its largest encampment sites in 2021, we have been hard at work serving our unhoused friends. Much of Love Huntsville’s work has been directly organizing, and advocating to reduce as much harm as possible during the further displacement of our friends within the camps while encampment evictions were carried out.

Within 2 years we have served; $20,000+ in hot meals to hundreds of Huntsville’s unhoused population, prevented many of our unhoused friends from being taken to jail during encampment evictions with the help of one of our partner orgs, Huntsville Bail fund. We have also organized encampment clean-ups, necessity drives, & connected those experiencing homelessness to the best services fit for them.

Apart of our street outreach is our camp dinners that take place bi-weekly. Our camp dinners are way for us to directly connect with our unhoused friends, and to stay on top of pressing issues that are impacting them. Our direct connection with our friends allows for us to create policy and advocacy solutions that work for them in the most impactful way. Our camp dinners also include free health clinic services & health education which is a critical component to the work that we do in partnership with Rocket City Street medics.

  • Love Huntsville’s advocacy work is to amplify the voices of our unhoused community, to bring dignity & love to our unhoused friends, push back on policies that criminalizes those experiencing homelessness, & create awareness to the dire need for multiple solutions to end homelessness on a local, state, & national level.

We advocate by developing policies, and solutions in attempt to eradicate homelessness, and intergenerational poverty. Our advocacy work will always be centered around the idea that people come first.

Our advocacy work has led to amazing partnerships such as; SPLC, ACLU of Alabama, HSV bail fund, and so many more amazing orgs. We don’t believe that we can do this work alone, so we hope you become inspired to join in on the movement!
